About the studio
Mojang was founded in Stockholm in 2009 to develop Minecraft, which had begun as a personal project by Markus Persson. Its blocky worlds quickly found an enormous audience.
Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014. The studio, now known as Mojang Studios, continues to develop Minecraft and related games from Stockholm and other locations.
